Is there any chance that my eye doctor will say I should not use eye contacts?

I can't see my clroom blackboard if i'm like 3-4 metres away and I can't read signs on streets sometimes. I can't see from far away clearly. Will my optometrist let me get contact lenses? Or is there a chance he will say they're not right for me/I don't need them?
