What kind of rifle should I get?

My eighteenth is coming up, and I'm running through my possible options. My dream would be an M14, but I'm leaning towards an AR15, mostly due to availability. An FN FAL and a Mini 30 are both possibilities and, of course, an AK. My price range is right around $1000, but cheaper would be nice. NOTE: I don't live in Arizona, so I can't go full auto.
