Do I say anything or leave it be?

My friend text me last night round midnight after he had finished his route to tell me that a friend of his whom I know well enough ped away yesterday. My friends Mother also ped away about 2wks ago and I havent seen him face to face since. I ped on my condolences via text and same last night but I am unsure of how to be when I do see him... He lost his Mum and a good friend and neighbour in the space of 2wks. I just dont know how to converse is all as I havent seen him in a month or so and I wouldnt want it to be awkward so any advice out there... Hes a family man in his near 60s but we are good friends,after all he did let me know..
